If you choose to e-file, you must use the same provider to file both your federal and state returns.

The companies listed on this page offer different levels of service, so you may want to look carefully at each provider to see which free filing offers you qualify for. Free electronic filing

The state of Idaho has partnered with software developers and the IRS to provide selected groups of taxpayers with free electronic filing. To see if you qualify for free filing, please read the information below and click on the company name to view their software.

Be sure to use the links on this page to use the free services offered. Otherwise, you may be assessed fees or charges by these companies.

  • Intuit Tax Freedom Project, donating free online tax preparation and e-file if in tax year 2014 you meet one of the following:
    • Earned $31,000 or less Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), or
    • Earned $60,000 or less Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and served Active Duty Military (including Reservists and National Guard) or
    • Qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
  • TaxACT offers free federal and Idaho filing for 2014 if:
    • Adjusted gross income (AGI) is $52,000 or less and
    • Age is between 18 and 58 years old.
