Beat the rush—file your income taxes in March for a faster refund
BOISE, IDAHO — March 14, 2013 — You have until Monday, April 15 this year to file your 2012 individual income tax returns and pay any taxes you owe. If you’re expecting a refund from Idaho, filing your taxes in March will get you your refund faster, according to the Idaho State Tax Commission.
“This year, the income tax deadline falls on the day it’s supposed to, which hasn’t happened in the past few years because of legal holidays observed in Washington, D. C. and some eastern states,” said the Tax Commission’s Revenue Operations Administrator Doreen Warren.
“We’re letting the best-kept secret out of the bag about mid-March being the calm before the storm. If people want their Idaho income tax refunds faster, they’re wise to file before April, when we get completely inundated with more than 275,000 tax returns, most of them arriving on the 15th,” Warren added.
The Tax Commission says there are three key things you can do to speed up your refund:
- E-file your state tax return
- File as soon as you can, during the lull
- Choose to have your refund directly-deposited into your banking institution
Also, April 15 is the payment deadline for taxpayers to qualify for an automatic filing extension. Those who qualify must file their return by Oct. 15, 2013.
