WEB SITE HELPS LOW-INCOME AND OTHER TAXPAYERS FIND FREE TAX HELP
BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 17, 2009 —Taxpayers who qualify can find free help to prepare their income tax returns by going to the Idaho State Tax Commission’s Web site at tax.idaho.gov.
The free assistance, offered at locations throughout Idaho, is designed to help most low-income, elderly, and disabled taxpayers with simple federal and Idaho tax returns. Idahoans who are submitting a state return only to get a grocery credit refund can also receive help.
The list of volunteer sites is available through the “Free Tax Help” link in the “Hot Topics” box.
Most locations offer electronic filing for faster refunds. Some offer help in Spanish. All are staffed by volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service and the Idaho State Tax Commission.
To find a site by phone, taxpayers can call the Idaho Careline at (800) 926-2588 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST, or AARP’s automated system at (888) 227-7669.
